How Often Should I Do My Pitching Drills?

Max, I'm very glad to hear that you have watched the DVDs and they are working the program. My goal is to get a companion manual published this summer to help plan the workouts, both in-season and off-season. This email should help give you some insight on how to use the program in-season.

In-season, it is time to maintain what we have gained over the off-season in both strength and mechanics. The goal is to stay sharp and enhance your timing mechanism (a great drill for timing is pitching drill 3 in the DVD.)

When Thinking is Good in Baseball

We've all been told not to think when we are competing in a game.

I disagree.

Thinking is a good thing, as long as it doesn't freeze us.

Let me explain.

We all come to a situation where we need to solve a problem. If we rely on the coach to get us though the situation, it won't happen. That's why advocate letting the pitchers learn how to call their own pitches, or at least have input. They are the ones throwing the pitches. The pitcher should take responsibility.

High performing baseball players assess the situation, ask themselves what desired result they want, and figure out how to get it done.

It can be short-term thinking, or long-term thinking.

Short term might be this at bat. Long term can be this particular game or this season.

If we anticipate upcoming problems and challenges, the solutions will come to us easier.

Make it a priority for yourself to start practicing your thinking and problem solving skills. The next time you're in a tough situation, you'll have the confidence and patience to break through that wall!

Keep working hard!
