Velocity
gains are only temporary!
I was speaking with a
good friend of mine the other day about the academy.
He met a local pitching instructor at a social
event.
One thing led to
another and the topic of me and BioForce came up in
their conversation.
Now, when someone
asks me about one of our competitors, I try my best
to be as P.C. as possible. I certainly don't wan't
to bash anyone...doesn't look very good. I would
rather have my record and results speak for
themselves. In fact, if I've heard great things
about this instructor, I'll be more than happy to
pass that information on.
Anyhoo, this guy went
on to tell my friend that he had heard about us.
Within the next breath, this "expert" was bashing
our program. He told my friend that the gains that
we make are only temporary. I've never met this guy,
he's never been into our academy, and he doesn't
even know what we do.
Now, I've been
involved in this business long enough, and have
heard all the cover-ups, the temporary gain tactic
tells me that this instructor doesn't know how to
teach improved velocity, so he relies upon the ole
temporary bit.
Let's think about
that for a minute. Temporary...hmmmm???
I once heard a story
an accomplished golfer once told to a writer or
another young professional golfer. This hall-of-famer
golfer said that you never own the game of golf, you
are only renting it for a while.
To me, that made a
lot of sense. You work so hard to perfect your game
and as your body ages, so does your game.
Back to the jealous
coach. Velocity gains are only temporary, huh.
Then control gains
must be temporary too. A great late-breaking curve
is also a temporary thing.
If these skills are
only temporary, why bother pitching, hitting or
learning how to golf?
The bottom line is,
you need to train in all disciplines of an activity.
In pitching, there is velocity, movement, control,
deception and many other skills. If you close your
eyes to any of them, then you'll be missing
something.
Your job as a
pitcher, or this guys job as a coach, is to help the
athlete reach their potential today.
So, if you hear a
coach bash another and use the ole, temporary bit,
run for the hills. He doesn't know what he's
doing...in spite of all the credentials....there I
go bashing someone.
Until next time....
Keep working
hard....increasing that velocity, even if it only
lasts another 15 years or so. :-)
