How Often Should I Do My Pitching Drills?

Max, I'm very glad to hear that you have watched the DVDs and they are working the program. My goal is to get a companion manual published this summer to help plan the workouts, both in-season and off-season. This email should help give you some insight on how to use the program in-season.

In-season, it is time to maintain what we have gained over the off-season in both strength and mechanics. The goal is to stay sharp and enhance your timing mechanism (a great drill for timing is pitching drill 3 in the DVD.)

Successful Pitchers Make the Ball Dance!

What really frustrates a hitter the most? Most kids will say a blazing fastball. Others might say they can't hit a curve.

I say it is late movement. Late movement is better than early movement.

The later we release the ball in the delivery, the later the movement of the ball. Whether it is a sinking fastball, a circle change or a curve.

Why is late movement a great thing? Because at some point the batter loses sight of the ball and delivers the bat to the point at which we believe the ball will be. Experience seeing many pitches over time helps us build that database in our mind so we can deliver the bat to the correct spot.

Younger kids have less experience seeing curveballs. Not enough data in the brain. They struggle with it.

Recently, one Division 1 college head coach told me said he loves to put pitchers on his staff that have a late sinking fastball. He said it was the toughest pitch to hit.

How do you develop that late movement? Learn the BioForce pitching mechanics and you'll see how to get a later release on your pitch.
