Tip of the Week

How Often Should I Do My Pitching Drills?

Max, I'm very glad to hear that you have watched the DVDs and they are working the program. My goal is to get a companion manual published this summer to help plan the workouts, both in-season and off-season. This email should help give you some insight on how to use the program in-season.

In-season, it is time to maintain what we have gained over the off-season in both strength and mechanics. The goal is to stay sharp and enhance your timing mechanism (a great drill for timing is pitching drill 3 in the DVD.)

Raw Baseball-Athletic Talent is Not as Superior as Being Laser Focused

My message to you today is simple.

I would take laser focus and hard preparation any day over athletic ability. How many times have you heard or seen someone get something mainly because they have been blessed by the baseball or pitching Gods with incredible talent, but fall far short of their potential.

That ugly “P” word.

Usually you hear the famous word…but after someone says he has so much potential.

But, he didn’t fulfill it. He had troubles with…..

But what do they say about the guy with marginal talent and makes it a long way? Boy, he sure made the most of his talent.

I say baloney. Hard work and exceptional laser focus towards a goal is a talent. Some people have it, others don’t. Some people develop it, others let things get in their way.

What really got me going on this tip today was an old song I heard on the XM satellite radio this morning while I was working out.

The song was E.L.O.’s “Hold on Tight” hit. That’s Electric Light Orchestra for those of you who don’t know 70’s and 80’s rock. Geez, I am dating myself aren’t I?

I loved the message that was sung in the song. I just had to come home and check out the lyrics on the internet.

Some of the lines in the song go like this…

Hold in tight to your dream
When you see your ship go sailing
When you feel your heart is breaking
Hold on tight to your dream

When you get sick of trying
Just hold on tight to your dream

I think that’s what keeps people from really succeeding. Not holding tight when the going gets tough. When they hit some bumps in the road. Take the advice of ELO. Don’t let anything or anybody get in the way of your dream.

I do have to make a plug for our next 3-Day Elite Pitchers Boot Camp. The dates are in the process of being changed on our website, but you can put it on your calendar for Friday, January 4, Saturday, January 5, and Sunday, January 6th. Click here to read more and sign up today.

Pitchers Boot Camp

Oh yeah, my wife Laura wants me to let you all know we have a couple of Christy Mathewson books left for your Christmas gifts!

More ELO lyrics…

Oh, yeah
Hold on tight to your dream
Yeah, hold on tight…
To your dream.

Train like a champion today!

P.S. Here’s that link again for the 3-Day Elite Pitchers Boot Camp. Going on January 4, 5, and 6.
