A New
Format for our Baseball Tips and the Olympics
I certainly hope all
of you are working hard preparing for the season.
At the bottom of
these tips and tidbits, I am enclosing some baseball
trivia, quotes and hopefully some fun facts.
As the winter
Olympics arrive this weekend, I was thinking about
baseball and the summer Olympics.
I recently read about
the elimination of baseball and softball in the 2012
Olympics in London.
What a shame.
The European
dominated Olympic committee has voted to remove the
two sports from the roster. That leaves the London
games two sports short of the maximum.
Don Porter,
International Softball Federation President felt
that a little political gamesmanship had to do with
the decision.
Apparently, the
President of the Olympic committee wanted the two
sports out and had been pushing to get them out for
some time. The members didn’t want to make the
committee look bad.
What a shame.
If you look at what
has happened internationally to the sport since the
Athens games, baseball and softball are blossoming
in many countries around the world.
Greece didn’t even
have a team before the 2004 Olympics and in 2005
their National Team placed 9th in the European
Championships.
I can tell you one
thing, I certainly would rather watch some of the
equestrian events or archery, or better yet, rowing
than baseball. The shooting events are probably more
exciting than a good baseball game too.
Keep Making it
Happen!

Quote of the day….
“They have a
broadcasters’ wing. They have a players’ wing. Maybe
one day they’ll have a chicken wing.”
-Mascot Ted
Giannoulas, a.k.a. the Famous Chicken, when asked in
1993 if he might someday earn a Hall of Fame
recognition.
