How Often Should I Do My Pitching Drills?

Max, I'm very glad to hear that you have watched the DVDs and they are working the program. My goal is to get a companion manual published this summer to help plan the workouts, both in-season and off-season. This email should help give you some insight on how to use the program in-season.

In-season, it is time to maintain what we have gained over the off-season in both strength and mechanics. The goal is to stay sharp and enhance your timing mechanism (a great drill for timing is pitching drill 3 in the DVD.)

More Temporary Gains

I do like getting feedback on the tips and news.

Got plenty after yesterday's tidbit. Keep them coming.

After thinking about the subject of temporary gains some more, it seems crazy that someone would say that the velocity gains are only temporary.

Most of us work out...or we should anyway. If we workout consistently, we will be closer to our goal, whatever that might be...losing weight, better flexibility, a rehab of an injury etc.

If we took this defeatist attitude of the gains are only temporary, we'll never reach any of our goals.

And what about this "coach" who gives lessons to students. Aren't their gains in skill only temporary? Maybe his students shouldn't go to him any more.

I get calls all the time from folks who want to get a pitching lesson because all-stars is next week. If they are a new client, I tell them I can't help them with a quick fix. Existing clients are always welcome to come in for tune-ups.

My point today is that your mindset on any training activity should be just that, training....not a quick fix. It takes time to master what you are trying to accomplish.

Have the mindset that your journey is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Keep those questions and comments coming...maybe I'll bash someone next time!
