So You Want to Know More About Towels?

I want to thank one of our most dedicated BioForce Family members and readers, Bob from Massachusetts. He’s always making sure I am clear with my tips.

He responded to my recent tip about just owning your pitching delivery and doing a lot of towels drills.

Bob wrote. “Ever have any concern that 700 reps per week of towel drill would put strain on an arm? For us East coasters (and DVD buyers) perhaps you could explain the “towel drill” in greater detail?”

Before I get to the answer to that, I want to add a little spice and fun to these tips…I’d love to get your feedback if you like this and if we should continue with the idea.

I would like to add in a baseball trivia question to my tips. A trivia question like this…

Who was the Hall of Fame pitcher that won at least 1 game in 26 straight seasons?

I’ll either post the answer in our next tip….or on our website somewhere. I’d love to hear your feedback on this….Bob….I’ll be waiting for your input.

Back to the tip for the week.

Am I concerned about 700 reps a week. The answer is yes and no. Yes if the pitcher hasn’t prepared himself physically to pitch and doesn’t build up to that high of an amount slowly. I also don’t suggest doing that many in-season.

I suggest pitchers do towel drills 5 to 6 days a week…again in the off season. I also want to stress they should do them with the highest quality. What I mean is not just trying to rattle off a ton for the sake of doing a ton. I’d rather see a pitcher do 20 quality drills than 50 poor ones.

What are the towel drills? Well, it’s simply replacing the ball with a small towel. A towel that has about 12 inches on at least one end. Grip it with the middle finger on your throwing hand wrapped around it, or two fingers if you a smaller player. You can use the drills in our Explosive pitcher DVD. It’s great for the torque drill, it’s great for arm-swings drill for timing. Why not try it with the stretch and wind-up.

Bottom line, it helps you get a lot of reps in with less strain. Some of our kids even use it before pitching. It helps them get loose and ready for the bull-pen work.

I hope that helps explain it a little better.

Remember,

Keep training like a champion today!
