How Often Should I Do My Pitching Drills?

Max, I'm very glad to hear that you have watched the DVDs and they are working the program. My goal is to get a companion manual published this summer to help plan the workouts, both in-season and off-season. This email should help give you some insight on how to use the program in-season.

In-season, it is time to maintain what we have gained over the off-season in both strength and mechanics. The goal is to stay sharp and enhance your timing mechanism (a great drill for timing is pitching drill 3 in the DVD.)

How much is too much?

I had a great conversation yesterday with a local orthopedic surgeon. He actually helps out a local minor league team with their injury problems and issues.

We got on the conversation of pitch counts and injuries.

As most of you know, we certainly advocate pitch counts. There are no absolutes in pitch counts, but we certainly have guidelines.

Well, the bottom line conversation with this Doc was that it really is up to the pitcher to know his/her own limitations. Listen to the body.

If you've participated in our Elite Pitching program, you know the pitch count parameters we stress. Use those as a guideline. See how your body feels with those guidelines and adjust accordingly.

What I really liked about the conversation with the Doc was he stresses proper conditioning, proper mechanics and improving core strength to his clients.

Looks like we will be joining forces with this doctor and his clinic to help our clients with the best information and instruction anywhere.

Food for thought today!

Keep kickin' butt in the training room!
