You need
core strength on an Icy day!
As I sit here in my
den, watching the kids play outside on a freezing
rain, icy day, it reminds me of how important
dynamic balance is.
Dynamic balance
meaning balance and stability while moving.
These kids are
running and sliding on the ice. The better the core
strength, the less likely the kids will fall.
Our next door
neighbors, Sam and Jack are much younger than the
big kids.
They haven't
developed core strength yet, thus, they are falling
a little more than the others but seem to be having
a lot of fun.
To be an effective
hitter or pitcher, you need tremendous core strength
to give you outstanding dynamic balance.
One way to help your
dynamic balance is to create an unstable environment
during your workout.
I don't mean doing
lunges in the ice, but there are many ways to do it.
Large Physio balls,
wobble boards or even working our barefooted will
challenge your balance and stability. A word of
warning though. You need to be sure you can handle
the unstable environment. Don't try this until you
have strengthened your core and certainly don't try
it without supervision.
For those of you that
train at our academy, you understand the benefits of
the unstable environments.
For more information
on our classes, look for additions to our programs
off of the "Indoor Academy" page.
I do think the
younger kids in the neighborhood like falling
though. Wait till they get older, it's a lot longer
drop.
Make your goals your
passion!
