Questions You Need to Ask Yourself About Your
Hitting
If you are like me, I
love watching the baseball playoffs during the fall.
Because of my schedule, I usually tape the game and
watch it…..not a bad way to go sometimes. Fast
forward through commercials……watch it when I want
to.
Of course, being an
academy owner and teacher, I’m always looking for
ways to learn something or find something pertinent
to teach.
This World Series is
pretty interesting.
It seems like
everyone in the country is pulling for Detroit…I
have to admit that I am too. Don’t know why,
probably because I was brought up near Anaheim
Stadium and followed the American League. Oh yeah, I
think it is now the Los Angeles Angels Stadium of
Anaheim…..of California, I pledge allegiance to
Major League Baseball of the United States of
America Ballpark.
What worried me most
about the Tigers was the layoff. Not so much for the
pitchers, but the hitters. I think you can lose your
eye pretty quick.
I’m sure the Tigers
worked out every day, played scrimmages, but hitting
in competition is totally different.
You could see the
struggle in the Tigers hitting as they pressed a
little. It looked like they were swinging at pitches
they don’t normally swing at. Is the St. Louis
pitching that good, well yes, it is good, but the
Tigers seem a little off.
I believe it is
spilling over into their defense too. They are
pressing.
How do you overcome
this kind of hitting funk?
Well, you get back to
basics. Be more patient. Look for the pitch you know
you can handle. Survey the situation and be
aggressive. Know your weaknesses and don’t give in
to the pitcher when he throws you a pitch in your
hole…or weak spot.
What if you don’t
know your weakness?
You should. You
should know your strengths, weaknesses and
everything in between.
Do you struggle with
high and inside pitches? How about recognizing
off-speed pitches? Hate the outside fastball.
Simple questions you
need to ask yourself. Be honest with yourself. You
might be surprised what you learn.
If you need help on
your strengths and weaknesses and you live in the
Portland, Oregon area, stop by and sign up for our
new Sunday 1 hour approach hitting class. It’s what
we do. Find the weakness. Fix it. Find the next one.
That’s how you get
better.
We’ve only got 9
spots in the class, so first-come, first-served.
What’s my prediction
of the series right now?
Cardinals in six.
Hope it goes seven
though. There’s nothing like a seventh game of the
World Series.
