How an
Autograph Can Help My Pitching
or Hitting Mechanics
My sons, Bryce and
Craig, have a lot of sports memorabilia. I do too.
In fact, right now, as I type this tip, I am looking
at a signed picture of me and Jack Nicklaus taken at
a golf course outside of Cabo San Lucas.
It was a great day.
An early morning round of golf for me. Nobody on the
course or the driving range. As I was finishing my
warm ups on the range, who shows up… yep, Jack
Nicklaus. He was gracious and actually spent some
time talking with me and my wife Laura. A great
memory. Made me feel incredible being around
greatness.
Behind me, I’ve got
some signed bats from Ken Giffey, Jr., A-Rod, and
Pete Rose. More stories I won’t bother you with
right now that go along with those too.
My sons, well,
they’ve got signed hats, actual cleats from players,
bats, and of course signed baseballs. A lot from
trips they’ve taken and gotten them from actual
players.
I know a big prize my
older son has is a signed picture of Nolan Ryan and
Tom House personalized to him. He looks at it often.
Why am I talking
about these treasures?
Two reasons…
1) My boys, and
me to a certain extent, really appreciate what
these incredible athletes have accomplished
(with a little exception to the whole Pete Rose
gambling stuff). Something to aspire to.
2) My wife and I
realize the value of surrounding our kids with
images of success. Having something autographed
by a legend puts successful energy in their
lives. And having a picture, or a baseball
signed by of a favorite player on your walls or
dresser will put an incredible positive image in
their mind.
I know both of my
boys have a dream of playing baseball
professionally. Most young boys have that same
dream.
I think, without
knowing it, my sons have created an environment to
continually remind them of what they want to
accomplish.
In our academy, we
have our BioForce University wall (which needs to be
updated). On this wall, we have all the players
names that have gone on to play baseball in college.
We even have a few names under major league baseball
banners of players and our coaches that have played
professionally.
I want it to be a
constant reminder to our young players that it is
possible to go after your dream.
In today’s world, and
I bet it has been like that for centuries, we are
surrounded by images of failure. On the daily news,
we see everything "bad" pushed in our faces and
crammed into our minds. Look at “reality” tv these
days. If you don't see a tragedy or high drama in
the news or a tv reality show, it’s likely it won’t
show up in your world.
Sad but true.
This is why it's
critical to continually feed your mind mental
pictures of success.
That’s what we preach
in our Elite classes as well as our classes for the
young players too.
Will it help you with
your pitching or hitting mechanics?
Absolutely.
With your mental
approach to your game.
You bet!
How many of you play
in baseball tournaments this summer? I bet a lot. My
good friends Mike and Dori Heyer are putting on an
excellent tournament in early August in Hillsboro,
Oregon. It’s the West Coast Nationals through a
quality organization, USSSA.

On to the answer to
our last trivia question. It was Darrell Evans. Our
good trivia friend, Ken also found that Reggie
Jackson accomplished the same feat. Reggie wasn’t
mentioned in my resource. Great job Ken.
As for the question
this week….
Who is the only AL
batting champion who didn’t hit a home run in his
batting title year?
Good luck.
So, don’t be afraid
to put up those pics and memorabilia around the
house or in the bedroom. It should bring you a great
feeling about your future.
Keep training like a
champion today!

P.S. We’ve finally
scheduled our next 3-day Elite Pitching Boot Camp.
It will be July 27, 28, 29 .
