Baseball, Lobster, Clam Chowder,
and Pitching in New England
I’ve been traveling a
lot this summer. The Stanford All-Star camp with my
younger son Craig in Palo Alto a few weeks ago, then
Phoenix for a few days ( man that was hot!), and now
my wife Laura and I are in New England visiting my
son Bryce who’s playing summer collegiate wood bat
baseball in Newport, Rhode Island. What a lot of
fun.
Before I get on with
the tip, I do have to ask who might have been
wearing a BioForce hat at the Stanford camp. I saw a
man I didn’t know wearing one….and I didn’t have the
opportunity to introduce myself…what a great feeling
seeing someone wearing our colors.
I tell you, the
people in New England are great, the food is
wonderful, and they love their beloved Red Sox. I
made the mistake of wearing an Angels t-shirt the
other day into a grocery store. The glares, the
looks and even a comment from the grocery clerk
surprised me a little. It was actually kind of fun.
If you see me around town, I wear my BioForce
t-shirts a lot. But I have to change things up a
little bit for my wife you know. Although she likes
our logo, she’s probably a little burned out on me
wearing the same thing every day. Enough about my
fashion sense.
This is the season
for showcases for high school players and summer
wood bat leagues for the college guys. The little
leaguers are well into the all-star experiences. A
very busy time for all of us…but what great fun.
I recently had a
BioForce faithful reader ask me the differences in
high school baseball and college. That can be a long
article, but I’ll make this one short.
The big difference?
Speed. These guys run faster. They swing harder,
they throw faster, and they pitch faster.
The other thing?
College players are more consistent. My short answer
is speed and consistency.
That’s what we should
all be working on. Bring consistent with our game
and getting stronger to be able to compete at the
next level.
If you ever have a
chance to catch a collegiate wood bat game in your
area, do it! The players are great and the game is
fun to watch….especially with the wood bats. It’s
real baseball.
The fans in New
England really know the game. I believe it’s why
they are so passionate about the Red Sox. They
understand and appreciate the nuances of the game.
Pretty much the same with the Cubs fans.
Back to the speed and
consistency issue. How can you improve your speed
and consistency? You first need to identify your
weaknesses. That’s not easy to do.
I would start with
your physical weaknesses. What’s holding you back?
Weak shoulder……weak hips….weak core?
Then, work on them.
Pretty simple really.
To help you, we’ve
got our 3-Day Elite Pitching Boot Camp coming up
July 27, 28, and 29th. We’ve got spots for up to 24
athletes. Here’s a link if you would like to learn
more.

So, today’s tip is to
work on your speed….foot speed, bat speed, throwing
speed….this coming off season is a great time to get
started. Don’t wait until 2 weeks before next
season. Get it done right now!
Until next time…
Keep training like a
champion today!
P.S. Here’s that link
